Library Company collections on Flickr: The Commons

The Library Company of Philadelphia is excited to announce its new membership to the Flickr Commons. Flickr Commons promotes the sharing of digital collections from cultural heritage institutions and encourages further sharing, commenting and crowdsourcing by the general public.

The Library Company has been contributing digital collections to Flickr over the past few years and having a Flickr Commons account will expose the digital collections to newer audiences who are specifically seeking images from cultural heritage institutions. Since opening a Flickr account in 2008, there have been over half a million views of our collection materials by people from around the world.  The daily views spiked to over 32,000 views on March 16th, when our Flickr Commons account was activated and publicized.  More information on the Library Company’s new membership can be found in a recent blog post press release by Flickr Commons.
