Applications for 2023–24 short-term and dissertation fellowships have closed. Applications for 2024–25  fellowships will open later this year.

To apply, fill out the online application form below and upload a single PDF file (named using the format Lastname_Firstname_application) containing the following:

• Applicants for short-term (one-month) fellowships: a brief CV, a ca. 150-word project abstract, and a description of your proposed research (not to exceed 1,500 words). Applicants will be considered for all short-term fellowships offered by the Library Company of Philadelphia and/or the Historical Society of Pennsylvania for which they and their projects are eligible.
• Applicants for long-term dissertation fellowships: a brief CV, a ca. 150-word project abstract, a description of your proposed research (not to exceed 1,500 words), and a writing sample of no more than 25 pages. Applicants for dissertation fellowships may also check the box to be considered for short-term awards. Long-term dissertation fellowships will be awarded first; applicants who do not receive a long-term award will then be considered for short-term opportunities.

Proposals should make clear how Library Company and/or Historical Society of Pennsylvania collections will support your research.

Applicants for dissertation fellowships should request two letters of recommendation; applicants for short-term fellowships should request one letter. Letters should be in PDF format and may be uploaded here; please ask recommenders to name files using this format: Lastname_Firstname_letter.
