Advisory Council

The Library Company Papers Project was served by an external advisory council* composed of representative subject specialists and experts from peer institutions.

Dr. Tara Bynum is an Assistant Professor of English & African American Studies at the University of Iowa and a scholar of early African American literary histories before 1800.

Dr. Jesse R. Erickson is the Astor Curator of Printed Books and Bindings at the Morgan Library and Museum.

James N. Green is Librarian Emeritus of the Library Company of Philadelphia, where he worked for nearly 38 years. He holds degrees from Oberlin (A.B.), Yale (M. Phil.), and Columbia (M.L.S).

Dr. Jessica C. Linker is an Assistant Professor of History at Northeastern University, a historian of early America, and a digital scholar.

Sandra Markham is an archivist at the Lewis Walpole Library, Yale University, with over forty years of experience as an archivist, curator, collections manager, and museum registrar at institutions having roots in the 18th and early 19th century.

Dot Porter is the Curator of Digital Humanities at the Schoenberg Institute for Manuscript Studies at the University of Pennsylvania, where she leads a wide-ranging digital humanities research and development team within the context of a special collections department.

Dr. Daniel Richter is the Roy F. and Jeannette P. Nichols Professor of American History Emeritus at the University of Pennsylvania. His research and teaching focus on colonial North America and on Native American history before 1800.

Dr. Jessica Choppin Roney is an Associate Professor of History at Temple University and the Library Company’s Director of the Program in Early American Economy and Society.

Dr. Derrick Spires is Associate Professor of Literatures in English and affiliate faculty in American Studies, Visual Studies, and Media Studies at Cornell University. He specializes in early African American and American print culture, citizenship studies, and African American intellectual history.
