LCP Artist in Residence: Jennifer Levonian
Thanks to a generous grant from The Pew Charitable Trusts’ Heritage Philadelphia Program, the Library Company will be collaborating with artist Jennifer Levonian, who is creating an animated video to coincide with the upcoming exhibition John A. McAllister’s Civil War: The Philadelphia Home Front, which the Library Company is mounting in commemoration of the 150th anniversary of the Civil War. Jennifer began by examining Civil War related visual and printed material in our collection looking for inspiration. She has decided to focus on the topic of women who disguised themselves as men and fought as soldiers. Visitors to our exhibition will be able to view the animation beginning on May 17, and anyone can watch it on our website. A special blog has been created where Jennifer and Library Company staff will document the project. We hope you will visit the site and share your thoughts and comments. You can also watch some of Jennifer’s other animations on her website.
