The Print Department is again fortunate to have some extra help for the summer. Kat Poje, a rising sophomore at Haverford College, is assisting in the processing of the Raymond Holstein Stereograph Collection thanks to the  college’s  internship program through their John B. Hurford ’60 Center for the Arts and Humanities.

The over 2,000-item photograph collection, acquired in 2011 (as noted in a previous News post), is being arranged, housed, and described by Kat. Brimming with images of Philadelphia during the 19th and early 20th centuries, including Center City, Fairmount Park, and the Delaware River, the collection documents the built environment, and commercial and street life of the city, as well as major events like the Centennial Exhibition.

Kat’s project is invaluable in helping us to make these historically significant visual materials accessible to our patrons, on and off site. Her endeavors not only include arrangement and preservation but also the inclusion of select images from the collection in Flickr.  Engaging, and often rare views, like a transportation hub at the Centennial Exhibition, are already available through this photo site thanks to Kat. We eagerly look forward to the additional gems she will discover and include in the coming weeks of her internship.
