Casey Schmitt received her Ph.D. from William and Mary in 2018 and was the 2018-20 Barra Postdoctoral Fellow at the McNeil Center for Early American Studies before joining the history department at Cornell University, where she teaches classes on Early America, the Caribbean, and the Atlantic World. Her first book, The Predatory Sea: Human Trafficking, Colonization, and Trade in the Greater Caribbean, 1570-1670 is in production with the University of Pennsylvania Press with an anticipated release date of September 2025
