Fran Dolan came to the Library Company in 2015, having worked in the field of museums and historic sites for over ten years. He holds a B.A. in English Literature and in American History from La Salle University. He was previously employed as a Building Manager for the University of Pennsylvania and as the Associate Director for Programs and Operations at Eastern State Penitentiary Historic Site. At Eastern State he oversaw the growth of the historic site from a local attraction of 30,000 visitors annually to a world recognized site attracting over 250,000 visitors a year. Dolan has worked with numerous organizations in the cultural field, including the American Alliance of Museums (AAM), American Association for State and Local History (AASLH), Visitors Studies Association (VSA), International Coalition of Sites of Consciousness, and several local conservation and preservation groups. Dolan is the author of Eastern State Penitentiary (2007, Arcadia Press), currently in its 4th printing. He has appeared on numerous local and national television and radio programs, including WHYY, NBC, The History Channel, The Travel Channel, KYW, and others. He lives in South Philadelphia with his wife, an employee of the National Park Service.
