A historian of early America, Michael A. Blaakman specializes in the histories of politics, political economy, borderlands, and empires during the age of revolutions. His first book, Speculation Nation: Land Mania in the Revolutionary American Republic (2023), received the Frederick Jackson Turner Award from the OAH and was supported by one-month and postdoctoral fellowships from PEAES. He is also a co-editor of The Early Imperial Republic: From the American Revolution to the U.S.–Mexican War (2023), a collection of essays that grew out of a 2019 conference hosted by the McNeil Center for Early American Studies and PEAES.
