Over the period of the seminar, participants will develop their abilities to:

• Place visual materials in specific social, political, economic, racial, religious, and other contexts, and more fully understand how and why graphics shaped and were shaped by these contexts
• Identify key graphic processes and comprehend when they were produced and in use
• Conduct primary and secondary research using prints, photographs, and other graphic materials
• Interpret the textual clues to aid in the identification of graphic processes and more fully construe their cultural context
• Understand and identify basic condition, restoration, or conservation issues that affect the way an image appears

At the conclusion of the seminar, participants should feel more competent in their ability to conduct interdisciplinary research and analysis with graphic materials and have substantially expanded their understanding of visual culture within different historical frameworks.

The program is limited to 12 participants. A $500 stipend will be provided to each participant following the workshop. Stipends are taxable.
